Herb Gardening in the Landscape, Beds, and Containers

Learn how to incorporate culinary herbs in your edible landscape, their health benefits and how they can make your good food- great cuisine! Seeding, propagation, planting, care and maintenance of the three types of herbs (perennials, seeded crops and Basil) will be discussed. A tour of the gardens will follow for those who wish.
Host and teacher, Roy Wilburn, Horticulture Manager for Sunshine Care, A Community of Assisted Living Homes in Poway, was an herb grower in Oceanside for three years after being a commercial row- crop grower in Baja for 20 years. For the past five years he has managed Sunshine Care’s five organic vegetable gardens, two fruit tree orchards, a rose garden, their greenhouse and the general landscape of the 32 acre campus. He oversees the food-bank gardens at Sunshine Care and helps with many school gardens, religious centers and low –income housing gardens in the Poway/ RB area.
He is currently an ambassador, board member and sponsor of the SDHS, board member of the San Diego Community Garden Network, Co-President of the Poway Valley Garden Club, Horticulture Chairperson for the Bernardo Gardeners Club and a member of the California Farm Bureau.
