Frank McDonugh
20 South African Plants Every Home Landscaper Should Know

The record drought drew attention to low water use landscaping in general and to South African plants. Many parts of South Africa, including the exceptionally diverse Cape Floristic Provence, host non-thirsty and usually non-invasive plants that are both visually pleasing and attention getting. Botanist Frank McDonough discusses the 20 stunning, hardy, and currently available offerings that every landscape designer, professional or amateur, should have in their plant palate.

Currently the Los Angeles County Arboretum’s Botanical Information Consultant, Frank McDonough has 35 years’ experience in horticulture. He identifies plants, pests and diseases for Arboretum staff, the County of Los Angeles, businesses and private individuals. His televised California State University Dominguez Hills class on gardening and landscaping culture in Los Angeles ran from 2004 until 2008 and garnered thousands of viewers. Frank gives popular classes in plant taxonomy and night photography, a monthly overview of what’s hot in horticulture, and gives specialized tours including the perennially sold out Fall Foliage and Valentine’s Day Love Plants tours.

The presentations starts at 6:45.
