Getting Your Organic Garden Ready For Spring/Summer Veggies
Instructor: Roy Wilburn
Farmer Roy will talk about what organic veggies are grown at Sunshine Care for their residents. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, green beans and lettuce will be highlighted along with how to prepare your soil to get them off to a great start. Also included will be a discussion of past successes and failures with shared stories from Farmer Roy and attendees. Roy Wilburn was a commercial tomato, pepper and strawberry grower in Mexico for 20 years. He then went on to be the grower for Herb Thyme Farms in Oceanside for about 3 years. He is now the Director of Horticulture at Sunshine Care, A Community of Assisted Living Homes in Poway CA. There he manages 5 organic fields, a greenhouse, a rose garden and two fruit tree orchards plus the landscaping of the 32 acre facility. He also oversees food bank gardens on site and school gardens.
